Many children in Malawi, as well as many other African countries, do not survive long enough to celebrate their fifth birthday. Even if a child does live past the age of five she/he still has many hardships to overcome. There is the constant threat of Malaria, lack of proper nutrition, water and healthcare, as well as a host of other obstacles. Therefore, education is often not available or simply unattainable, but we at Pedals for Africa feel that education is an important factor in ending the extreme poverty that so many Africans live day in and day out.
